Commercial and residential development in Southwest Florida was already proceeding at a breakneck pace - and then the region was devastated by Hurricane Ian.
The months and years ahead will see an expansion of the region’s physical plant; but that growth must take into account sustainability and environmental impact.
Our speaker, Tim Aten, is the region’s premier journalist on this beat, known at Gulfshore Business for his “Tim Aten Knows” column. A Southwest Florida journalist since 1998, Tim has documented local growth and development for more than 16 years.

Print journalism in the U.S has experienced a precipitous decline, and has been replaced by a chaotic new world of digital content.
The implications of that shift for our politics, our economy and our culture are enormous.
On what sources today can Americans rely for news and commentary they can trust?
And how can traditional journalism compete for an audience without compromising its own standards?
On April 5, two veteran ink stained wretches will try to cast some light on these subjects, and generate some group discussion.
Whether you are a digital only reader, or a fan of old fashioned print, this lunch discussion should prove to be fun and informative.
Join us for this exciting luncheon!

PROF. BROOKS HAD TO CANCEL LAST MINUTE DUE TO AN UNEXPECTED CONFLICT.
The Harvard Club of Naples, Harvard Business School Affiliate of HCN, Princeton Club of Southwest Florida, and Yale Club of Southwest Florida welcome Professor Brooks for a conversation about how to "live a better happier life." Drawing on science, classic philosophy, theology, and history, happiness expert and bestselling author Arthur Brooks shares counterintuitive strategies for releasing old habits and forming new life practices. Professor Brooks is the columnist behind The Atlantic's popular "How to Build a Life" series, a guide to transforming the life changes we fear into a source of strength. Professor Brooks has just released a new book, From Strength to Strength - Finding Success, Happiness, and Deep Purpose in the Second Half of Life. The Dalai Lama commented, "In this book, Arthur Brooks help people find greater happiness as they age and change."
Arthur C. Brooks is Professor of Management Practice at the Harvard Business School and the William Henry Bloomberg Professor of the Practice of Public Leadership at the Harvard Kennedy School. Before joining the Harvard faculty in July of 2019, he served for ten years as president of the American Enterprise Institute.
This is a FREE event, but registration is required (registration link below). This is a joint event between the Harvard, Princeton and Yale Clubs. The webinar will be moderated by Princeton Club (and Harvard Club) President Trey Farmer and Harvard Club Vice President David Sissman. Professor Brooks will present for about 40 minutes, then there will be a Q&A session. We will utilize the Q&A function in the Zoom Webinar for the submission of questions. We will take as many questions as time allows. The webinar will last for one hour.

Join us for this exciting luncheon as we hear from Frank Verpoorten, Executive Director and Chief Curator of Naples Art. Before joining Naples Art, Frank served as Director and Chief Curator of Artis—Naples, The Baker Museum for seven years. Frank will talk about Naples Art's founding and initial presence in the community, and Naples Art’s ascent to prominence, as well as some of the challenges encountered along the way; finally presenting the strategic plan on the outlook for the future.
Frank Verpoorten has more than twenty years of experience at cultural institutions and museums in Brussels, Belgium, New York City, and Southwest Florida. As an art historian trained in 19th-century European academic art and knowledgeable in Pan-American modern and contemporary art, he has curated and organized over one hundred exhibitions, most notably among them Surrealism in Belgium: The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie (2014), The Duchamp Family of Artists (2014), and Museum to Scale 1/7 (2015).
Originally from Brussels, Verpoorten moved to New York City in 2000, where he served curatorial and directorial roles at the Dahesh Museum of Art, Snug Harbor Cultural Center, the Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art, and the Museum of Modern Art. From 2009 to 2012 he worked as Cultural Attaché for the Delegation of Flanders (Belgium) to the U.S.A. in New York.
Before joining Naples Art, he served as Director and Chief Curator of Artis—Naples, The Baker Museum for seven years, earning the appreciation, support, and friendship of the Southwest Florida community through his brand of successful, world-class exhibitions, his tireless advocacy of the permanent collection, and the judicious acquisitions he made. From 2012 to 2020, Verpoorten brought stimulating exhibition seasons to Naples that offered a unique balance comprising installations with works from the collection, impactful national and international exhibitions, as well as surveys of emerging or under-recognized artists. An ambitious museum leader with an endless intellectual curiosity, Verpoorten was The Baker Museum’s longest serving Director. He propelled the institution to a new level of excellence and substantially grew and advanced the appreciation of the museum’s collection and its foundational sub-collections by conducting research on several hundred works with the museum’s curatorial team. He also expanded the collection substantially by securing major acquisitions from the late Olga Hirshhorn and from Charlotte and Paul Corddry. His research on The Baker Museum’s collection culminated with the publication of the organization’s first permanent collection book.
In 2019, Verpoorten secured a long-term loan of six iconic paintings by the Belgian surrealist René Magritte from a private collection. The addition of these outstanding works with remarkable provenance substantially raised the museum’s profile nationally and internationally.
Mr. Verpoorten attended the Vrije Universiteit Brussels, Belgium, earning dual master’s degrees in art history and cultural studies. He held research and curatorial positions at the Museum for Musical Instruments and the Royal Museum for Fine Arts in Brussels before moving permanently to New York in 2000.

As the economy emerges from an unprecedented two years of pandemic, new challenges face us, even as old ones retreat. Inflation stands at a multi-decade high, interest rates are rising, and war looms in Eastern Europe. To shamelessly mix metaphors, there may be light at the end of the tunnel, but we’re not out of the woods yet.
Join us for a presentation and conversation about the current state of the economy and financial markets.

Just like the jazz greats they always honor, Redhot performs music that shows how jazz both inspires and reflects the world around it.
