Please join us for the 140th meeting of the Harvard and Yale football teams which is the second oldest continuing rivalry in college football.. (Rutgers and Princeton started playing in 1869) Last year, the teams battled to a tie in regulation play; and Yale came out on top with an overtime win 23-18. This year, Harvard has a 5-1 record in the Ivy League followed by Dartmouth and Columbia at 4-2, then Yale at 3-3. So, while Yale is out of the running for the title, it can play the spoiler by knocking Harvard out of the undisputed Ivy League title.
The Game has been played ever since 1875 when Harvard beat Yale 4-0 in a game more like soccer and rugby. In 1883, the more modern version of football emerged and Yale won 23-2 in a game played at the Polo Grounds in NYC. There have been many notable games including the one I attended at Harvard in 1968 when Harvard “won” 29-29 with its famous comeback in the last 43 seconds.
As things stand now, Yale leads the series 70-61-8.
It’s always fun to gather and share a meal together.
